El Segundo has a new Library Director and her name is Melissa McCollum. In her new role, McCollum will oversee the Library Services Department. She will also be in charge of the four branch locations. These are set in various schools. McCollum replaces Debra Brighton who retired last year.
McCollum plans on steering the library through its next stage of growth. She plans to do that with outreach to the community. She plans to use collaboration and new technology. All the while she has to keep an eye on her budget.
With the new appointment, McCollum brings an impressive resume. She was the Community Library Manager for Manhattan Beach, West Hollywood and Lawndale just to name a few.
In 2010 McCollum won the American Library Association’s, I love my Librarian Award.
